There will be photographic pop history at the castle! From the beginning of the 1960s and on to the middle of the 1970s Larsåke “Skuggan” Thuresson photographed over 300 foreign and Swedish musicians and groups. Having been hidden from the public for many years, the pictorial treasure has now become the exhibition “Ikoner”. In the autumn of 2023 this fantastic piece of pop history will come to Örebro Castle.
Despite many of the pictures being published, the largest portion lay packed away in boxes in Larsåke’s attic. In the end, his daughters more or less demanded that he do something with them. The result was the book “Ikoner” published in 2015. The book contains 614 pictures of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Tom Jones, Janis Joplin, Cher, Birgit Nilsson, Cornelis Vreeswijk, Abba and Ted Gärdestad to name but a few.
Some of the subjects have been commissions, while many exist in a private sphere that it is scarcely possible for today’s photographers to access. To go along with Cher on a shopping trip is probably quite unthinkable for a photographer nowadays. To see Agnetha and Björn from Abba showing off in front of the camera in their own home is also unique.
In addition to nearly 200 images from the book, the exhibition includes period posters, vinyls and magazines. The pictures are accompanied by Larsåke’s own stories and we also meet him in a specially made portrait film.
