About the castle
The castle has been the home of Örebro County’s governor since the 18th century. But one thing you might not know is that the castle for the little ones is also Castle Gomorron Sun itself. This is also the home of Laban the Little Ghost.
Nobody knows exactly how old the castle is. Probably the oldest part of the castle is a medieval stone house that later grows with a defense tower over 30 meters high. The tower is in turn surrounded by a seven meter high and three meter thick curtain wall.
However, there is another thing we know for sure. A larger castle was added in the mid-14th century, probably built by King Magnus Eriksson. The castle is then called Örebrohus and consists of three three-story residential wings placed around the old tower.
No, Örebro Castle is not actually a museum. It is a vibrant destination where you can discover new events and exhibitions all year round. But of course, it is also a place full of exciting stories of a bygone era, ready for you to enjoy!
The historic parts of the castle are run by Örebrokompaniet, which ensures that exciting things happen there all year round. Large parts of the castle are also offices and the home of our Governor.
Do you feel like a museum visit when you discover the castle? Then be sure to visit one of the castle’s tenants – Örebro Läns Museum.
