The Castle, the Power and the People

– 700 Years of History

Örebro castle. It stands majestically, almost unshakably, on an islet in the Svartån River. But the journey here took nearly 700 years.

Here, kings have reigned, soldiers have stood guard, and prisoners have suffered. Here, people have worked and lived. Over generations, they have together transformed the medieval fortress into the “ castle ” we know today—a living monument to the history of Örebro and Sweden.

The exhibition “ The castle: Power and People” takes you on the entire journey. Small models of the castle give you a sense of how the castle has changed over time. You’ll learn more about the power struggles and uprisings that left their mark, as well as about daily life within the castle walls and the people who kept the castle alive through the centuries.

The castle is majestic and almost unshakable. But in every corner, there are traces of royal banquets and bitter power struggles—of people who once lived and stories that live on.
